Civilian Reserve Corps: Private Army?
Jeremy Scahill opines in a Los Angeles Times op-ed about President Bush's proposal for a Cvilian Reserve Corps on Tuesday night:
A privatized version of it was floated two years ago by Erik Prince, the secretive, mega-millionaire, conservative owner of Blackwater USA and a man who for years has served as the Pied Piper of a campaign to repackage mercenaries as legitimate forces. In early 2005, Prince -- a major bankroller of the president and his allies -- pitched the idea at a military conference of a "contractor brigade" to supplement the official military. "There's consternation in the [Pentagon] about increasing the permanent size of the Army," Prince declared. Officials "want to add 30,000 people, and they talked about costs of anywhere from $3.6 billion to $4 billion to do that. Well, by my math, that comes out to about $135,000 per soldier." He added: "We could do it certainly cheaper."And Prince is not just a man with an idea; he is a man with his own army. Blackwater began in 1996 with a private military training camp "to fulfill the anticipated demand for government outsourcing." Today, its contacts run from deep inside the military and intelligence agencies to the upper echelons of the White House. It has secured a status as the elite Praetorian Guard for the global war on terror, with the largest private military base in the world, a fleet of 20 aircraft and 20,000 soldiers at the ready.
It ain't going to happen. Politically, it's a non-starter unless the Civilian Reserve Corps is veiled as something much more benign -- maybe the Peace Corps?

Dear Mr My name is Daniel, I really want to work for your company. I have already over 200 applications on KBRJOBS.COM , but all i goth are answers that someone else took my filed out the place that i applied. None of the answers came at my adres that could give me some kind of hope. I know that you have regulations, and that you can't bend them, but all i ask from you is someone to give me a chance to prove myself. I worked all my life in the kitchen, and also i've finished specialized high school as an food technician. My father also worked for Brown And Root as an carpenter, his name is Jovanovic Momcilo, his badge number was 1115. I would like atleast to honer my fathers opinion that your the best company that he worked for. I don't have any certificates for carpenter but beside him i know everything about carpenting. Please give me a chance to work for you, my choice would be food service but i'll also work hard as an carpenter. I havent heard from anyone that is recruiting in Skopje to call me for an appointmant, and they didn't want to receive my CV directly in Holiday Inn or atleast to have a look to see do i deserve an appointmant. I have greath expiriance, also an educaton for the job i'm applying,and also i have grath knolidge of the English language.Still nothing, someone who had CV's ten time tinner then me passed and i can't geth an appointament. I'm starting to think that this all recruiting thing is staged. All im asking from you is to take a look at my CV and certificates (which i have more but i'm limited with space), and i'm sure that you'll see that i deserve to be there on your list of workers.
